The Challenge

The Ivory Lane walkway, running alongside Brisbane's iconic Story Bridge, required a full replacement due to structural deterioration. Given the walkway’s proximity to one of the city's most recognisable landmarks, the project demanded not only a structurally sound solution but one that aligned with the aesthetic appeal of the Story Bridge. The replacement needed to accommodate heavy pedestrian traffic, withstand Brisbane’s weather conditions, and ensure long-term durability while seamlessly blending with the heritage look of the surrounding area.

Our Solution

Gravity Wall Systems provided the ideal solution using Graviti® MassBlocs® and other Gravity Wall products. These materials were selected for their high durability, structural integrity, and aesthetic flexibility. The semi-permeable nature of Graviti® MassBloc® allowed for excellent water management, reducing hydrostatic pressure while maintaining the visual appeal of the walkway. Custom-shaped blocks were designed to meet the specific angles and aesthetic requirements of the project, ensuring a seamless and visually cohesive finish that complemented the Story Bridge’s iconic design.

The Result

The Ivory Lane walkway was successfully replaced with a durable, visually appealing solution that enhances the surrounding environment. Graviti® MassBlocs® provided the necessary structural stability while maintaining the heritage aesthetic of the area. The new walkway now offers improved safety, longevity and aesthetic value, serving both locals and tourists with a seamless connection between Fortitude Valley and the Brisbane River.
